Incipient ocean spreading beneath the Arabian shield

چکیده

Formation of new oceans by continental break-up is understood as a continuous evolution from rifting to ocean spreading. The Red Sea one few locations on Earth where plate boundary presently forms. Its provides key information how the tectonics operates and boundaries form evolve in time. While has already been formed southern spreading active, north-central segment still experiences rifting. region also west-east asymmetry: rift-related magmatism not located beneath rift axis, conventional models predict, but instead offset ca 300 km into Arabia. Solitary bone metastasis beneath the shoulder shield: coincidence or cause?

Post-mastectomy radiotherapy has been demonstrated to improve locoregional control in breast cancer patients. We report a case involving a 44-year-old breast cancer patient who presented with a solitary bone metastasis in the area beneath the shoulder shield, likely from a coincidental recurrence.

Late Proterozoic extensional collapse in the Arabian – Nubian Shield

A structural and petrological study of the Late Proterozoic rocks in the Wadi Kid area, Sinai, Egypt indicates the presence of an extensional metamorphic core complex in the northern Arabian–Nubian Shield. Gneissic domes throughout the Arabian–Nubian Shield resemble the core complex of the Wadi Kid area and as a result, they are interpreted as extensional metamorphic core complexes. The presenc...

Crustal structure and upper mantle stratigraphy of the Arabian shield

[1] Analysis of receiver functions from an eight-station network on the Saudi Arabian shield indicates that the Moho depths vary between 35–38 km. The crust appears to be rather felsic in nature as evidenced by Poisson’s ratios of 0.25–0.27. A prominent negative phase following the Moho conversion is suggestive of a zone of velocity inversion. Indication of mantle stratification is observed ben...

Ocean–Atmosphere Covariability in the Western Arabian Sea*

The western Arabian Sea exhibits strong spatial variability in sea surface temperature (SST) during the southwest monsoon, with changes in SST that can exceed 58C over 200 km. Exploration of satellite-based and in situ data shows a strong connection between mesoscale SST features and changes in the atmospheric boundary layer. The fundamental relationship is that of weak (strong) wind velocities...

Melt Extraction From The Mantle Beneath Mid-Ocean Ridges

As the oceanic plates move apart at midocean ridges, rocks from Earth’s mantle, far below, rise to fill the void, mostly via slow plastic flow. As the rock approaches the top of its journey, however, partial melting occurs, so that the upper 6 kilometers of oceanic crust are composed of melts, which both erupt on the seafloor as lava and crystallize beneath the surface to form what are known as...
